Russian as a foreign language (RFL).
MSPU has long – lasting traditions of teaching Russian as a foreign language. The chair of RFL was founded in 1964. At present days there are two chairs of RFL that provide students with high – quality education. Only top – tier and experienced professors work there.
- The chair of RFL (short – term courses) organizes 10 months courses of RFL (2 semesters). They are founded for those students that have no command of Russian at all. To attend them the one should have a General Certificate of Secondary Education, similar to a Russian one. The classes take place in the building of the College of Liberal and Performing Arts (Yugo – Zapadnaja metro station) and consist of 24 academic hours per week.
By the end of these courses, the students take an exam in RFL. Those, that will get A and B will be allowed to take entrance exams to different faculties of the University.
July 1 – August 30: the period of the acceptance of all the documents.
The classes start: September 1 (I semester); February 15 (II semester).
The program of the courses includes:
1. speaking
2. reading
3. writing
4. listening comprehension
5. word – building
6. phonetic means and devices
7. grammar
8. difficulties in lexicology and grammar
9. speech practice
10. stylistics
11. the study of functional styles
12. country studies
Cost: 75 000 rubles per 10 months[1] .
By the end of the courses the students will receive a certificate of MSPU.
- The chair of RFL (long-term enrollment) teaches during the whole academic year exchange students, fulfilling the course of general studies and having not less than an elementary language command of Russian.

At the beginning of the academic year the chair tests the international students, who have entered the university, and afterwards, distributes them into groups on the basis of their command of Russian and chosen major.
At summer – time special intensive courses (2 – 8 weeks) are organized for the students who know the language on elementary level.
Their topics are as follows:
1. RFL: phonetics, grammar, lexicology.
2. Russian language and Russian literature.
For those, whose major is either linguistics or the methods of teaching of Russian language, the following courses are organized:
1. The methods of teaching.
2. RFL.
3. Russian literature.
4. Russian culture.
The classes take place in the building of the College of Liberal and Performing Arts (Yugo – Zapadnaja metro station). By the end of the courses the students will receive a certificate of MSPU.
Cost of summer – time courses: 15 000 rubles (food and accommodation are not included).
